“When the sound of the singing bowls started I found it very relaxing and one of the bowls was vibrating at the same rate as my heart chakra, and I could feel my heart chakra starting to open, it was a lovely feeling. There was such a lovely variety of sounds and I did wonder how some of them were being made, having the eye pillows on and not being able to see added to the experience and made it more enjoyable. I found this so relaxing I will definitely do it again. Thank you Louise”. x

Relaxation is perhaps the most important key to health and well-being. When we are completely relaxed, we tune into the parasympathetic state and our own natural healing mechanism is then much more active.

When our phones and tablets run out of energy, we plug them in and recharge them but we need recharging too. How many of us are running on empty?

RELAX – RELEASE – RECHARGE – REBALANCE

The benefits of these classes, and the instruments I use

The Healing Frequencies of Sound

Music has the power to evoke strong emotions within us, whether it be joy or sorrow. It has the ability to make us want to dance around our kitchen or sing our hearts out in the car. The impact of sound on our lives is undeniable.

In today’s fast-paced world, we are bombarded with noise from all directions. Whether it’s the soothing tick-tock of a clock or the relentless buzz of traffic, sound is a constant presence in our lives, shaping our experiences in ways we may not even realize. We are deeply connected to the sounds that surround us.

Sounds are made up of vibrations that affect the world around us and all objects and organisms have their own resonant frequencies. Every cell in our body is vibrating at various frequencies and certain sounds can potentially restore our vibration, bringing us back into balance. How often do we hear someone mention a good or bad vibe?

Sound is a physical vibration and as it moves through the air it resonates with whatever it meets. If you are close to the sound of an instrument you will sense the vibration in your body. Your ears will translate this vibration from the sound into an electrical signal, and the auditory nerve will carry this to your brain. Sound healing instruments are tuned to frequencies that induce relaxation. When we use sound in therapy, we utilize the calming frequencies to induce the alpha and beta brain wave states to calm the mind.  You will automatically tune into the frequencies through the phenomena of brainwave entrainment and sympathetic resonance. Occasionally people get so relaxed they drift off into the delta.

The four Main Brain States are:

Beta waves are high-frequency waves that are commonly observed when you are awake. It is the normal electrical activity of the brain when you are conscious and alert.

Alpha is the normal electrical activity of your brain when you are conscious and relaxed.

Theta waves are strong during internal focus such as meditation, prayer, and spiritual awareness. It reflects the state between wakefulness and sleep and relates to the subconscious mind.

Delta brainwaves are the slowest measurable brainwave band and are most prevalent during deep sleep.

Sound waves also resonate throughout your whole body, potentially soothing and harmonising your various organs and possibly every cell. The vibrations lead you into a deeper state of contemplation or relaxation, shutting off your body’s fight or flight response. This activates your parasympathetic nervous system which then releases endorphins, the body’s feel-good hormones. This is where the healing starts.

How many of us are running on empty? When our phones and tablets run out of energy, we plug them in and recharge them but we need recharging too. The frequencies created during sound therapy can potentially recharge and rebalance us, and even trigger a phenomenon called sound healing.

Sound therapy is a meditative experience where you are bathed in sound waves. It can be experienced by attending a sound bath or gong bath. Sound healing instruments are used including quartz crystal bowls, gongs, chimes, and Tibetan singing bowls.

I combine mindfulness with my sound meditation classes. I always start with a gentle guided meditation for relaxation, which opens people up to receive the healing frequencies of the sound instruments that follow. I always end my class with a grounding meditation to bring people back into full awareness.

What Are Sound Healing Instruments?

Most sound healing instruments are tuned to specific frequencies that induce well-being. Each instrument also has its own unique quality depending on how it is made and what it is made of. We resonate with sound.

The instruments I use in my sound meditation classes include:

Tibetan Singing Bowls.

The enchanting secret of the Tibetan singing bowls lies in the making. They are made from seven different metals: gold, tin, silver, iron, mercury, lead and copper. Each bowl is hand made and good intentions and healing mantras are imprinted into them during the process. When the bowls are played, the vibrations from these good intentions and healing mantras are released, and you will absorb them. The effectiveness of using positive intentions is very important in sound therapy. Thoughts and intentions also have their own vibration and positive ones are more likely to bring about a good outcome. Never underestimate the power of good intentions!

Crystal Singing Bowls.

Crystal singing bowls are made from 99.9 percent crushed quartz crystal which is heated under high temperatures and formed into different bowl shapes.

The vibrational frequencies of sound healing crystal bowls have the ability to move through the skin, fluid, and bones of the body, creating a full body relaxation and recalibration down to the level of the cellular structure. Like a stone that is dropped into water, the sound vibrations can radiate through our bodies. The experience creates an environment of resonance within the body which feels like a sonic massage.

Gongs

The sound of a gong helps the brain to reach deep relaxation. The frequencies cause the brain, heart, and respiratory rates to slow down and increase the release of the body’s feel-good hormones that are linked to feelings of well-being. We tend to reach these states during daydreaming or deep sleep, and they are known to aid relaxation, creativity, and natural healing.

Wind Chimes

My wind chimes are tuned to Solfeggio frequencies. These frequencies are believed to profoundly affect the conscious and subconscious mind in order to stimulate healing and promote well-being.

Rain Stick

Have you ever sat inside on a rainy day and listened to the rain beat against the window? There is something very calming and comforting about the sound of rain which is why rain sticks are used in many sound therapy sessions. It can slow your pulse, calm your breathing and lower your heart rate.

Ocean Drum

The ocean drum is an incredibly magical instrument that replicates the sound of the sea. It instantly recreates the soothing sounds of both rolling and crashing waves. The relaxing effect that the ocean sounds have on you is due to something called, acoustic camouflage. This is a passive sound that drowns out a lot of other noises and distractions. It helps you to clear your mind of anxieties and other pressing concerns.

Flummi

I love my two flummi’s! They makes the most incredible haunting whale noises when played on the gong. The sound creates a mystical atmosphere and it feels like the whales are not far away. The spiritual energy of whales teaches you about listening to your inner voice, understanding the impact your emotions have on you, and following your own truth. It has been proved that whales show love, empathy, and grief and that family is immensely important to them. Whale meanings and symbolism include magnificence, communication, music, protection, gratitude, wisdom and transformation. There is a known phenomenon where humans become emotional with joy when hearing the call of the whales. The sound has a very high vibration and it is thought to emanate healing vibes. The sound the flummi creates helps you to connect to their energy.

Shruti Box

The shruti box is a hand-pumped Indian Drone instrument that traditionally works on a system of bellows. The sound creates a mesmerising steady tone for a myriad of uses including sound healing, meditation, and chanting. Each note corresponds to a chakra, colour, planet, body part, and more. Your brain will automatically tune into the healing frequencies through the phenomena of brainwave entrainment and sympathetic resonance. My shuti box is a low G which creates a deep resonance that can be felt within the body. It has hypnotic frequencies that calm the mind leading you into a dreamy state.

Shamanic Drum

Rhythmical drumming helps to release anxiety, stress, and depression. It is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health. Shamanic drumming is used in ancient ceremonies to induce a state of trance.

These are the main instruments I currently use but I am looking to add more as time goes by.

“I was so lucky to be at Louise’s sound bath last night. Having attended many sound meditation classes I want to say a massive thank you Louise, it was the best one I have ever attended. I would like to record every sound and play them each night before bed to fall asleep. It was awesome.”
