Healing Through Connection: How Mediumship Can Support the Grieving Process

What Is Mediumship?

Grief is one of life’s most profound journeys. It touches every part of us—our hearts, minds, and even our sense of identity. While traditional support systems like therapy, community, and time can all help, there are alternative paths that offer comfort and meaning to some. One of those paths is mediumship. In a recent episode of A Gift For Grief, I had the privilege of speaking with Grant Harris, a compassionate and experienced medium who works with individuals navigating the deep pain of loss. Grant’s work centers on helping people connect with loved ones who have passed, offering messages of love, reassurance, and peace from the spirit world. Mediumship is the ability to sense, communicate, or receive messages from spirits—those who have crossed over. For those grieving, these messages can offer profound comfort, especially when they include personal details or validations that help the living feel connected to the departed. Grant shared how he came into his abilities and how he approaches his work with integrity and deep empathy. He emphasized that mediumship is not about prediction or theatrics; it’s about healing. When someone is in the throes of grief, even a simple message like “I’m proud of you” or “I’m still with you” from a loved one can offer a powerful sense of peace.

Why It Helps

Grieving is often filled with unanswered questions: Did they know I loved them? Were they in pain? Are they okay? A medium can offer responses to these questions that resonate deeply with the person grieving. Even if you enter a session sceptical, many people report feeling an emotional shift—whether it’s closure, forgiveness, or just the comfort of knowing that love continues beyond death. Grant explained that for some people, hearing from a loved one can break the cycle of guilt or “unfinished business.” It allows them to move forward without feeling like they’re leaving the person behind.

Ethics and Caution

While mediumship can be incredibly healing, it’s important to approach it with discernment. Grant talked about the importance of ethical practice in his field—ensuring that sessions are grounded in compassion, not exploitation. Not all mediums operate with the same level of care, so it’s important to do your research and trust your instincts.

A Tool, Not a Cure

Mediumship isn’t a replacement for therapy or other forms of grief support—it’s one part of a broader healing journey. But for those who are open to it, it can be a powerful way to maintain connection, find answers, and gain the strength to keep going.
